In this hour we will explore the deep connections of religion and spirituality in Appalachian music including Shape Note, Lined-Out Hymns, family bands and Gospel singing. includes music by The Berea College Black Music Ensemble, Lotus Dickey, The Davis Family, and field recordings by William Tallmadge as well as an interview with Berea College Sound Archive Fellow Jesse Karlsberg. Welcome to the Celebrated Sounds, the webpage for the Celebrated Sounds: The Music of the Berea College Sound Archive educational audio program.
Our first program, An Introduction to a Musical Appalachia is now up here and explores The history of how the outside world saw our music over the last 100 years.
